THE STORY

An Adventure Through Time

Professor Ernest O. Cogwright is an inventor in need of a new lab assistant.  Irene Blakely was not what he was expecting.  Before he can send her away for a more acceptable assistant, however, he must embark on a dangerous journey.  His sister Evelina and her footman Kyllion have activated his experimental time engine and disappeared into the streams of time.  He must follow in an older prototype and save his sister.  Irene, not one to be ignored, insists that she accompany him.  As Professor Cogwright and his assistant chase Evelina through time they will come face to face with ancient kings, terrifying monsters, evil tyrants, and historic disasters.

Will Ernest save his sister and bring her home?  Will Irene convince the professor that she is a worthy assistant?  Will Ernest and Evelina come to terms with a past that haunts them?

The facts

SALT Drama & Film Crew

We are a group of middle and high school homeschoolers who love to create!

Our drama class films are a group production. The students are involved in research, writing scripts and songs, creating props and costumes, getting actors in hair and makeup, setting up and operating filming/audio equipment, etc. As we create our yearly films we have a LOT of fun. We hope you enjoy our work!

Drama and Film Crew are actually 2 classes that meet back to back on Thursdays every week.  In the Fall, Drama class focuses on learning acting skills through games and improv.  Film Crew begins with brainstorming, research and scene outlining.  Next, students are broken into teams to get everything ready for our film.  While some are writing the rough draft of the script, others are creating props or sewing costumes.  Some students may build set pieces, write song lyrics, or choreograph a fight sequence.  Drama class also participates in brainstorming and research, and Film Crew class also plays acting games.

In the Spring, we begin with auditions and last minute preparations before launching into our semester of non-stop filming.  At this point, both classes are doing the same thing: film, film, FILM!

Mrs. Workman

"Story is a powerful thing!

We can tell stories through art, photography, writing, acting, and film-making.  I LOVE telling stories with my students."

Tracy Workman is an artist/teacher with SALT Homeschool Connection. She teaches classes in drama, film, art, digital media, photography, and creative writing. For the past 7 years she has been producing episodic films with her students at SALT.

Mrs. Workman's degree is in Art Education, but she has always had a passion for performing arts and film.  Before beginning the drama program at SALT, Tracy produced a couple of educational videos with her own children and had some experience in children's theater.  She has since produced several short videos for church groups as well.

"Everything I know about film-making I have learned by doing.  I don't have any formal training in film, but I have grown as a director and editor every year that we have produced one.  It hasn't always gone as planned, but it has always been extremely rewarding and FUN!"
